Glam the grey away!

Red cloche from Accessorize and vintage blouse from my mum!

For the first time in ... oh ... about a week, it was a gloomy day today. Still hot, you understand, but covered in clouds and threatening to rain even at 8:30am. I know this because I was walking my insanely-cheerful 4 year old son to school right around then.

On less-than-cheerful days I can go either way with my clothes: on one hand, there's always the temptation to dress with the weather and go all-out grey, on the other there's clamouring for glamour. Today I chose hand number two and made vintage my glamour of choice.

See how cheerful it made me?

Basically, pop a cloche on my (deceptively tiny) head, and I'm yours. Well... maybe not yours, but I will probably hug you and definitely be very appreciative! I'm hoping cloches are going to force their way back onto the scene along with opulent dropped-waist gowns and dresses, thanks to the new film adaptation of  The Great Gatsby with Leonardo DiCaprio and Carey Mulligan.

I know you're feeling it too - what's not to love?! ASOS.com and Wish Want Wear have got in ahead of the trend game, so to speak, because look at these beauties...

Are you loving this vintage glamour as much as me?

Dressed to impress (in curtains?)

Remember when Maria couldn't stand to see the Von Trapp children without play clothes? What about when Scarlett needed to look snazzy when meeting the rakish (yet suave) Rhett?

You recall what happened, right?
Why, yes - those ladies did whip out their sewing boxes and made dresses from their drapes.

Now, despite the passing of years and the changing styles of both dress and curtain fabric, I think that the trend for dressing like you're ready to drape yourself over some lucky person (see what I did there?) is back and should be here to stay.

Ranging from the ever so opulent to the ditsy florals that I'm sure graced the windows of more than just my childhood home, there's a lot to love about curtain prints.

Clockwise left to right: Golden Opulence Gown @ Wish Want Wear, Laila Skater Dress and Tilly Contrast Dress @ boohoo.com, Jasmine Dress @ Wish Want Wear, Parisian Birdie Ruffle Dress @ ASOS.com

What do you think? Will you be bringing the sewing machine out and dragging the drapes down as soon as you safely can? Have you done so already? Share!
